Duplex, 2 Agnes Street (and its pair 4 Agnes Street) was built circa 1905. At that time the pair was owned by W. H. Jones.
A 1907 diagram shows a mirror pair of stone duplexes sharing a full-length front verandah and centrally located front steps. Each duplex had a galvanised iron addition at the rear with limestone exterior side walls. A weatherboard wash house and water closet straddled the fence between the two duplexes.
Subsequent occupants include Joseph Livingstone (1910), William Mrazek (1920), Henry Jury (1940), and Rose McGarry (1949).
At some stage prior to 2000, the façade of Duplex, 2 Agnes Street was painted. This has been removed in recent years to reveal the original stone wall and brick quoining. Physical DescriptionDUPLEX, 2 AGNES STREET is a single storey stone and zincalume hipped roof duplex. There is a rendered dividing wall and the roof has four brick chimneys with rendered corbelling. The dropped verandah is supported by timber posts. There are timber double hung sash windows and timber panelled doors with sidelights and fanlights. Duplex 2-4 and 6-8 Agnes Street are similar in style and form a significant group and contribute to the streetscape of Agnes Street.Place UseOriginal Use – RESIDENTIAL: Conjoined residencePresent Use – RESIDENTIAL: Conjoined residencePlace TypeIndividual Building or Group
