Typical timber framed single storey cottage dating from the first decades of the twentieth century. Historically significant as a representation of working people’s living conditions in the Fremantle area.ArchaeologyConditionHistoryEdmund Street was named for Sir Edmund R Fremantle, a nephew of Sir Charles Fremantle the founder of the city. Edmund served with Sir Charles as Flag Lieutenant from 1858 – 1861. He died in 1929 at the age of 93. Edmund Street was gazetted on the 25 May 1922 and was previously known as Marmion Road. A vacant lot is recorded for 1899 and a cottage for 1900. In 1906 / 07 it was recorded as number 654. Physical DescriptionSingle storey timber framed and weatherboard clad walls and a painted corrugated iron hipped roof house. The roof has a brick chimney and extends over the verandah which is supported by timber collared posts between timber brackets and balustrades. There are weatherboard additions to the rear of the house.
