Historically significant as a representation of working people’s living conditions in the Fremantle area.ArchaeologyConditionHistoryHampton Road was originally called Prison Road. It derives its name from John Stephen Hampton (1810-1869), the Governor of WA from 1862-68. He was previously Comptroller of Convicts in Tasmania. His son, G. E. Hampton, was Acting Comptroller-General of the Fremantle Convict Establishment. House, 194 Hampton Road was recorded on Lot 148 CSL 134 in Rate Books from 1930. Physical DescriptionSingle storey tuck pointed brick with rendered banding and Colorbond hipped roof residence. The roof has a brick and rendered chimney with corbelling and extends onto the verandah which is supported by timber posts, there is a cast metal frieze which is probably not original. There are timber double hung sash windows and additions to the rear.
