Typical single storey stone cottage dating from the late nineteenth to early twentieth century. Historically significant as a representation of working people’s living conditions in the Fremantle area. Has undergone significant alterations but original form remains intact.ArchaeologyConditionHistoryHampton Road was originally called Prison Road. It derives its name from John Stephen Hampton (1810-1869), the Governor of WA from 1862-68. He was previously Comptroller of Convicts in Tasmania. His son, G. E. Hampton, was Acting Comptroller-General of the Fremantle Convict Establishment. This lot (151 CSL 134) is recorded as being vacant in the rate book records of 1918/19 and with residence 306 in 1924/5. Physical inspection indicates that the house was built prior to this date. This place was included on the list of heritage places in the City of Fremantle identified by the Fremantle Society in 1979/80. Physical DescriptionSingle storey tuck pointed stone and brick quoined residence has a terracotta tile roof.
