The school was designed by Gil Nichol of Cameron Chisolm and Nicol Architects and was part of a larger group of education building constructed in this area by the State Government to support residential and industrial development in the area and which included Fremantle TAFE (1968 - demolished 2022) and Winterfold Primary School. South Fremantle High School won the 1987 Clay Brick Award from the Clay Brick Manufactures of WA. The place was included in the "Heritage Study South Fremantle", prepared by John Taylor Architects, for the City of Fremantle, June 1993 and was included in the Fremantle Municipal Heritage Inventory in 2000. South Fremantle High School closed in 2017 and the following year the campus became Fremantle College, an independent public high school, to replace South Fremantle High School and Hamilton High School. The information in this place record was updated in 2023.Physical DescriptionBrick and tile construction buildings constructed in the Late Twentieth Century Perth Regional Style and laid out in a campus style setting with seven main buildings separated by courtyards and connected by covered ways.
