Typical single storey stone cottage dating from the late nineteenth to early twentieth century. Historically significant as a representation of working people’s living conditions in the Fremantle area.ArchaeologyConditionHistoryRates Books record the lot as undeveloped to 1896. In 1897 a cottage is recorded. Properties from 7-40 Martha Street is referred to as the Martha Street Precinct. Horses were kept on part of this precinct and a note from the MRD states that the owner of 7 Martha Street had been advised to remove horses and an illegal structure. A laundry was built in 1966 and renovations to the kitchen and bathroom were undertaken in 1976. Physical DescriptionSingle storey house with tuck pointed stone and brick quoining to window and door openings. The hipped roof is clad with zincalume and has a prominent brick chimney with corbelling. There is a skillion roofed verandah below decorative timber brackets supported by timber posts onto a stone low wall balustrade (probably not original).
