Single storey stone cottage dating from the late nineteenth century converted to a duplex in early twentieth century. Historically significant as a representation of working people’s living conditions in the Fremantle area. Has undergone significant alterations but original form remains intact.ArchaeologyConditionHistoryRate books record a one roomed cottage on this lot (pt 25 CSL 7) in 1896. By 1897/98 it had three rooms. It was owned by Robert Harper who was an importer, merchant and manufacturer. His company was situated in Cantonment Street (Lot 244) from 1898 to 1903 and then Phillimore Street (number 49) until 1974. By 1940 /41 two residences, numbered 20 and 22, are listed. Between 1964 and 1968 the numbers changed to 20 and 20A. In 1967 a garage was added to number 20A. In 1986 the owners applied to renovate numbers 20 and 20A and to construct a character dwelling on Lot 25 Martha Street. Physical DescriptionDuplex 20 & 20A Seaview Street is a single storey rendered stone and corrugated iron hipped roof duplex; No 20 is double faced and No 20A is single faced.
