The place has aesthetic value for its contribution to the streetscape and the surrounding area. It is representative of the typical building stock located within the residential areas of Fremantle. It is historically significant as a representation of typical workers' houses in the Fremantle area. The place is an example of the Victorian Georgian style of architecture.ArchaeologyConditionCondition assessed as fair to good (assessed from streetscape survey only).HistoryThe house was built 1923-24 for Maria Stapleton. This place was identified by the Fremantle Society in 1979/80 as being of cultural heritage significance. (Coded: Red: "Significantly contributing to the unique character of Fremantle")Physical DescriptionHouse, 101 South Street is a single storey timber and corrugated iron house constructed in the Victorian Georgian style of Architecture. The walls are timber framed and clad with timber weatherboard. The roof is hipped and clad with corrugated iron. The verandah is under a continuous corrugated iron roof supported by chamfered timber posts. The symmetrical front façade has a central front door with modern double security screens flanked on either side by timber framed casement windows. There is a timber framed window with corrugated iron awning supported by timber brackets on the left side of the house.
