Reference numberES00361DescriptionOctober 1972 Entrance to the "Tarantella Nite (sic) Club No.5 Mouat Street. This building was designed by E.H. Dean Smith and built for a local investor, William De Lacey bacon in 1903. In 1971 the property was purchased by L.H and A.E. Webb and leased to Jose (Joe) Faria who operated a nightclub (the Tarantella) on the premises. Faria and his partner, Lanham Holdings Pty Ltd purchased the property in 1986 but four years later offered the freehold for sale at $695,000. Fabray Pty Ltd, a division of Fini Homes purchased the property in 1992 and decided to redevelop No.5 and its rear warehouse units for residential/ and commercial use. As a result the nightclub closed (it had been a source of complaint for some time because of damage to property and unruly behaviour in the West End) and local architect Michael Patroni was employed to carry out the two -stage conversion (completed 1992).Date1972PhotographerEdmonds, MurrayPhotograph FormatSlideDigital ItemYes
