Note the rear of the former Water Police Station and Quarters Nos.10-20 Marine Terrace (built 1903, since 1993 private residences) on the left. On the right is the former Commissariat Building (built between 1852 and 1898 with later additions c.1930). The Commissariat building was restored and converted into a maritime museum - opened September 1979. Today the museum is a recognised leader in maritime archaeology in the southern hemisphere. Within its walls are displays on early exploration and shipwrecks found off the coast.
