DESCRIPTION

Reference numberES00368DescriptionOctober 1972 Esplanade Reserve. Originally a shallow swampy area this land was reclaimed and vested in Council in 1904. A retaining wall was built in 1903 and sand from Robb Jetty as well as spoil from the Ellen and East Street cuttings and Rocky Bay were used as infill. Levelling, manuring and planting couch grass cost Council 1,000 pounds, which was a considerable sum at the time.
