Reference numberLH000262DescriptionAerial view of Fremantle from the South West showing Fishing Boat Harbour before extensions. Note Esplanade. In 1902/1903 this area was reclaimed (7 acres). The Norfolk Island Pines were planted at the suggestion of Cr. Frank Nicholas c1908. The Fishing Boat Harbour was built in 1922, the stone coming from Rocky Bay. It was proclaimed as a fishing harbour on 30.07.1924 under the Ports and Harbours Act of 1917. In 1944 a 200 metre mole was thrown out at the foot of Grey Street. It was financed by the P.W.D. and the F.C.C. to combat erosion. In 1949 the breakwater on the northern side was added. The boundaries were amended on 30.08.1961. John Curtin High School and playing fields officially opened 15.11.1958. Note Elders woolstores Cantonment and Queen Victoria Streets.Date1960PhotographerH.
