Reference numberLH000351DescriptionOfficial opening of the North Fremantle Tramway Service - Wednesday 30.09.1908 at 11.15 AM. South end of traffic bridge (1866 bridge modified). The Mayoress of North Fremantle, Mrs Robert Bracks, at the tram controls. A "jigger system" running to and fro on the one mile track, passengers transferring to and from East Fremantle tram as required. Present at the opening were the Fremantle "City" Band, Messrs W.A. Murphy (Mayor of Fremantle), S. Thomson (Mayor East Fremantle), Bolton and Angwin (M.L.A.s), E. Solomon (Chairman F.M.T.), A. Mitchell (Engineer, F.M.T.), Leslie (Consulting Engineer, F.M.T.) and others. North Fremantle school children assembled on the roadway outside their school to greet "the strangers in our midst".
