Reference numberLH000434DescriptionH.M.S. Hood showing the flag. The Hood visited Fremantle as part of a special service squadron. Other vessels included the Repulse, Danae, Dauntless, Delhi, Dunedin and Dragon. The Hood was blown up by S.M.S. Bismark on 24.05.1941 in the Denmark strait. On the left is the tug Wyola, on the right the tug Uco. The Wyola was built in 1912 at South Shields, Durham to the order of the Swan River Shipping Company. During World War I she served overseas as a minesweeper, returning to Fremantle in 1919 to serve continuously until 1970 when she was sold as scrap. Source: Port of Fremantle Quarterly Summer 1972.
