Reference numberLH000498DescriptionThe Knowle, home of Captain E.Y.W. Henderson, Controller-General of convicts. According to Stubbe (Stubbe, J.H., Medical background, UWA Press, 1969); it was erected in 1856-1858. When Captain (later Colonel) Henderson returned to England in 1863, the house was occupied by Mr Clifton, Comptroller of Customs. In 1892 it was used as a branch of the Fremantle Lunatic Asylum.
