He was born in Stonehouse, Lanark, Scotland on 9.07.1855, and married Emily Armit MacKay in July 1878. They had six children. They arrived in Western Australia aboard the Carthage, 21.09.1886. Scots Church was designed by J. Talbot Hobbs and cost 2000 to build. The foundation stone was laid by Sir John Forrest 26.03.1890.
