Reference numberLH000690DescriptionThe Taylor Memorial Fountain, at the north end of Market Street, was "Erected by John Taylor of London in memory of his sons Ernest and Peter who died in W.A. 1905". Ernest Baines Taylor, a purser on the S.S. Natal, died at the home of W.D. Moore (on the corner of High and Cliff Streets) on 18.09.1885, aged 21 years. His brother Peter Sothern Taylor, born about 1864, arrived in Fremantle 19.12.1887 on one of his father's ships, the Elderslie. He acted as his father's agent and, while on a trip to the Kimberlies, he was speared to death at Nookambah.
