Reference numberLH000997ADescriptionThe Fremantle Sea Baths were built between the Long Jetty and the Fishing Jetty and opened in 1906/1907. There were separate sections for male and female swimmers, but in 1909 mixed swimming was permitted in special "Continental Evenings". The Baths were a financial disaster owing to the concurrent development of South Beach (The Brighton of the West) and very severe winter storm damage. They were closed in 1917 after a nett loss of 10,143 pounds.Date1911Photograph FormatPhotographDigital ItemYes
