Reference numberLH001020DescriptionThe company was started by Lionel Samson who was born in England in 1798. After graduating from Oxford University he became a stockbroker in London. He was invited by Sir James Stirling to come to the Swan River Colony and arrived on 5.08.1829 aboard the Calista. After a month, he had purchased property and established a business: he was granted the first wine and spirits licence in the colony.
