Reference numberLH001163DescriptionThe hump backed bridge was built by convicts and completed in 1866. It was strengthened and straightened in 1908 to carry trams to North Fremantle. Use continued until December 1939 and it was demolished by 1950. In the foreground is the Fremantle Rowing Club's boatshed. Tenders were called for its erection on 14.09.1887. Prior to 1898 the shed was moved 100 metres downstream to allow for the building of the low level bridge. In April 1963, the re-routing of the Perth-Fremantle Railway forced the club to relocate to Preston Point.Date1892Photograph FormatPhotographDigital ItemYes
