Richard Henry Tyler was born in Gloucestershire, England. He arrived in W A on 4.06.1886 aboard the Otago with his wife Agnes (nee Santer) and four children. There were nine children in the family; Henry, Edward, Robert, Harold, Kate, Dorothy, William, Frances and James. Richard Tyler was a farrier, blacksmith, carriage builder and wheelwright in William Street (Lot 390A) from 1890 to 1902. John William Porter took over his business in 1902/1903.
