Seated: from left: Adolf Julius Carl; Maria Minetta Magrata (nee Alpen); Albert (1885-1970). Adolf Emil and Maria Minetta came from Germany in 1883 and settled in Adelaide. In 1893, Adolf came to work as an iron moulder at the Fremantle Railway Workshops. In 1895, the rest of the family came over and they lived in a one room iron shed for two years until Adolf built a wooden villa at 144 King Street, East Fremantle. In 1912 he bought 6 acres of land at Bicton. William Walter was a state footballer; Adolf was a teacher, writer for the West Australian (newspaper), Freemason, state cricketer and East Fremantle footballer.
