Reference numberLH002711DescriptionThe Base Hospital or No 8 Australian General Hospital treated men returning from WWI with gunshot wounds and shock. Officers had a separate entrance to their ward on the first floor, but in all wards beds were crammed together. Trained sisters, doctors and volunteer ward workers treated the wounded. The massage staff are pictured. In the centre at the back is Miss Hardeman, Elizabeth Parker (later Shepherd), trained as a masseuse in London, is seated at left and in the centre front is Mr Lindemann who was in charge.Date1918Photograph FormatPhotographDigital ItemYes
