Reference numberLH004240DescriptionWRAN J Davies of Victoria V/S and Signaller J Coppin of WA at the Naval Signal Station on top of the Australian Wheat Board's 'Hospital Silo' in North Fremantle. In 1944 the Navy relocated its signal station from Cantonment Hill to the 55 metre high 'Hospital Silo'. It included a large lookout area, teleprinter, wireless and telegraph rooms, toilets and rest rooms for male and female staff as well as a small kitchen. Access was by 211 stairs and later a lift. In the background is the grain loading gallery at No 9 berth and part of the United States Navy floating dry dock for servicing submarines.
