Reference numberLH004695DescriptionThe main four storey section of the Castlemaine Brewery was built c1898. The brewery and its bottling works were some distance apart and a wheeled container (known as a "Torpedo") drawn by a horse was used to transport the beer and stout to the bottling works. The "Torpedo" held about 540 gallons. Between c1930 and 1948, the brewery premises were used by the Victory Salt Refining Company to refine Rottnest salt. In 1948 the bottling works was sold to the Fremantle Sailing Club for demolition and some of the material was used for their premises in Marine Terrace.Date1956PhotographerBousfield, MaxPhotograph FormatPhotographDigital ItemYes
