The Power Station was officially opened on 27th June 1951 by the Minister for Electricity, the Hon David Brand. Eight boilers were installed to produce steam to drive four generators, each of 25 MW capacity. At first the boilers were fuelled by coal but in the mid 60s they were converted to oil. When oil prices rose in the 70s, the boilers were returned to coal firing. The Power House was closed in July 1985.Date1965Photograph FormatPhotographDigital ItemYes
