Reference numberLH005179DescriptionWilliam Alexander Chamberlain was born in Fremantle on November 26 1851. His father, Charles, was shipwrecked in the Indian Ocean on his way to Western Australia and was picked up by Captain John Thomas. His mother was born at Clarence Rocks near what is now Naval Base. William was apprenticed as a shipwright and later engaged in shipbuilding, mainly pearl luggers.
