Reference numberLH005327DescriptionYachts from the 48000 kilometre Velux 5 Oceans Race stopped over in Fremantle at the Fremantle Sailing Club in December 2006. Seven yachts started in the race in October from Getxo Marina near Bilbao. The stop over ports were Fremantle, Norfolk USA and the finish was in Bilbao. By the time the race entrants reached Fremantle one, Hugo Boss, sailed by Alex Thomson, had sunk and another competitor, Mike Golding in Ecover, had dropped out after turning back to rescue Alex and then breaking his mast three hours later. The pictures show yachts moored in the marina, Pakea, one of the entrants, lifted in a hoist and the welcoming banners at the entrance to the hard stand area at the club.Date2007PhotographerBauer, AlisonPhotograph FormatPhotographDigital ItemYes
