Reference numberLH005331DescriptionIn 2002 a group of friends started to plan a memorial to the fishermen of Fremantle at Fishing Boat Harbour. "The Jetty" was developed by Claude Basile, Ross Merlino and Guido Micalizzi, whose background was in fishing and whose forbears helped pioneer the fishing industry. Architect designer John Tarry and sculptor Greg James created the million dollar monument which was unveiled on the 29th October 2005. It consists of a jetty with two fishermen and an honour board of stainless steel on 12 jarrah jetty posts. The honour board lists the names of 608 professional fishermen; 373 who fished before 1947 and were listed free and 235 who worked from 1947 and who were sponsored by family members.Date2007PhotographerBauer, AlisonPhotograph FormatPhotographDigital ItemYes
