There is also a gold plate on the bottom of plaque with the inscription, “FROM THE OFFICERS AND CREW USS PAUL HAMILTON DDG-60”DateBetween 1st April 1997 and 30th April 1997ProvenanceThe USS PAUL HAMILTON DDG-60 was a guided missile Destroyer of the United States Navy and was named after the US Secretary of the Navy from 1809 to 1812.
The ship was commissioned in 1995 and served in many theatres including the Persian Gulf but was part of the US Navy pacific fleet based in San Diego. As of 2021 the ship was still in service of the US Navy.
USS PAUL HAMILTON visited Fremantle for a week-long visit in April 1997.Relevance to the CityDuring her service USS PAUL HAMILTON visited Fremantle for a week in April 1997. This plaque was gifted to the CEO and the City of Fremantle during the visit in April 1997. The US Navy visits to port were a big drawcard for Fremantle in a forty-year period from the 1970’s to circa 2012.
