Named afterCharles Yelverton O'Connor was Western Australia's Engineer in Chief of Public Works and Manager of Railways. He commissioned limestone to be quarried from the Rocky Bay area to be used in the construction of the North and South Moles and Fremantle Harbour. This name is one of those that reflects his birthplace of Navan, the nearby capital of Dublin or the railway companies for which he worked and studied. It was the skills gained in these earlier years that allowed him to make such a contribution to the Port of Fremantle. This name is considered appropriate given the involvement C.Y. O'Connor had in establishing the Port of Fremantle with rock quarried from the Rocky Bay Quarry.
