Named afterDr George Attfield, Imperial Surgeon 1854-1879. Qualified in London in 1850. Attended at Fremantle Gaol & Superintendent at Fremantle Lunatic Asylum. He married a daughter of Surveyor-General Roe. He died in Brighton, UK c1923.DescriptionThe street was developed from the late 1890s, with the majority of the houses dating from the first two decades of the twentieth century. A subdivision plan of Fremantle dated 1903 shows Attfield Street extending south to Lloyd Street & possibly on to Douro Road. Cutting completed mid 1930's. Initially by prisoners from Fremantle gaol.
