Named afterIn 1852 Lt Col John Bruce was granted twenty acres of land immediately north-east of the Northbank site. In 1857 he was granted further land adjoining the estern boundary of the earlier grant. The land was not built upon until its further subdivision in 1890 when it became known as 'Bruce Town'. The North Fremantle Military Village and the Pensioner Guards came under the direction of Bruce in 1850. Re-establishing the name 'Bruce Street' commemorates an association with the Pensioner Guards presence and the convict establishment.DescriptionThe name 'Bruce Street' identifies the road which was engulfed by the Stirling Highway extension and bridge.
