Named afterJohn Cattalini served as an Elected Member for the City of Fremantle for about 25 years including 10 years as Mayor. He was first elected in 1969, stepped down for 3 years, was re-elected in May 1984 and again became Mayor in a December (1984) by-election. He was Mayor until he retired in 1994. In 1989 he was awarded the honorary title of 'Cavagliere of Italy' for services to the Italian community and he received the Order Of Australia in 1991 for service to local government and the community. He was three years old when he migrated to Australia with his family from Sernio, Italy. He went to school at St Jeromes in Spearwood, CBC Fremantle and at New Norcia. He lived for many years in Solomon St, Fremantle, having moved there in 1962 from Morawa, where he had lived for four years after graduating as a pharmacist in 1958. He opened his High St Pharmacy which is still in the Cattalini family. In later years he established a homeopathic practice in Essex St.He was actively involved in the ethnic community in the Fremantle area, particularly the Italian community. Other areas of involvement include being a member of Fremantle TAFE Advisory Committee, Fremantle's Chamber of Commerce, Fremantle Arts Board and the CBC Fremantle Amateur Football Club.He passed away on 8th April 2005.DescriptionApproved by Geographic Names Committee on 22 October 2008
