Named afterNamed for Arthur Gilbert Howell (1893–1949), of 218 Mary Street, Fremantle who served in the Australian Artillery in WWI as a gunner with Field Artillery Brigade 2, Reinforcement 14. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A32 Themistocles on 28.01.1916. He received the Military Medal for excellent services as a dispatch runner at Pozieres. After being discharged from the Australian Imperial Force in September 1918 Arthur Howell resumed work with the Fremantle Tramways before later becoming an accountant with the North Fremantle Council. In 1925 her married Alice Ray, they had four children. In 1942 Arthur joined the Volunteer Defence Corp and a year later was accepted into the Australian Army and reached the rank of Captanin by wars end. Following World War II Arthur resumed working with North Fremantle Council as Assistant Town Clerk. He died of a heart attack in July 1949. The name was taken from research on Fremantle in WWI by the Australian War Memorial, National Archive of Australia, Local History Centre - Fremantle City Library and family histories.DescriptionFormerly the extension of Davies Street. Subdivision of 38 Curedale St Beaconsfield - variation to road design from through road to cul-de-sac required a new name with a suffix which covered both designs - GNC suggested "Vista". Howell - approved by the GNC for inclusion on the COF reserved road names list on 10/2/2009. Approved by Geographic Names Committee on 01.09.2010
