Named afterNamed as the road leads to Rous Head which was named after Captain H J Rous of HMS Rainbow (discoverer of the Richmond and Clarence Rivers, NSW) by Captain James Stirling in March 1827. Situated at the northern entrance of the mouth of the Swan River. Shown on Stirling's plan of 1827 as 'Rous Point'. Rous was a schooldays friend of Stirling; they met in Hobart in February 1827 prior to Stirling exploring the Swan River ('James Stirling' by Pamela Statham-Drew, p. 68).
