Named afterName reflects a theme of Charles Yelverton O'Connor, who was Western Australia's Engineer in Chief of Public Works and Manager of Railways. He commissioned limestone to be quarried from the Rocky Bay area to be used in the construction of the North and South Moles and Fremantle Harbour. CY attended the Waterford Academy and upon completion was apprenticed to the chief engineer of the Waterford and Limerick Railway Company, for which his father also worked. It was the skills gained in these earlier years that allowed him to make such a contribution to the Port of Fremantle. This name is considered appropriate given the involement C.Y. O'Connor had in establishing the Port of Fremantle with rock quarried from the Rocky Bay Quarry.
