In 1992 he won the Quit Award for the Best Contributor to Football -- three years later was selected as Australia's greatest sporting commentator -- in 1999 the Fremantle Football Club named him in their Hall of Legends for his contribution to sports commentary and broadcasting -- the following year the Sydney Morning Herald gave him the title "best radio broadcaster at the Sydney Olympics -- internationally he won the New York Radio Festival's Best Sports Coverage Award in 1988 for his famous call of the infamous Ben Johnson 100-metre event at the Seoul Olympics.
