DESCRIPTION
Alternative TitleIndustrial land : metropolitan planning context Fremantle economic development background paper : a report prepared for the Fremantle City CouncilCorporate AuthorSheryl Chaffer & AssociatesDescriptionA study of Fremantle's industrial land resources. The city's industrial base and economic strength has traditionally derived from the port and port related industries, fishing, marine engineering, manufacturing and commerce. More recently Fremantle has developed as a focus for tourism, recreation and entertainment activities. Key aspects of the study include a review of local and metropolitan trends in the use of and demand for industrial land, review of use of existing industrial land, assessment of current policy and scheme provisions for industrial activity and a review of the role of the City in industrial development. The recommendations of the report provide a plan of action for the City of Fremantle to take in relation to statutory controls, ongoing research and monitoring, and liaison with other agencies. The report is divided into four sections: Part 1. provides the historical context for industrial land planning in the metropolitan region; Part 2. contains a description of each of the main industrial areas in Fremantle; Part 3. identifies and discusses the main issues relevant to Council in developing a strategy for industrial growth in the City; Part 4. identifies the main attributes and constraints to industrial development in Fremantle and potential growth industries in the cityImprint[Melville, W.A.
