Fremantle Port AuthorityDescriptionThis report is part of a continuing research programme which monitors the persistence of the Cockburn Sound ecosystem in relation to constructional and industrial modifications. It documents the condition of the ecosystem during the Autumn and Winter of 1973. The present investigation has been oriented toward establishing the cause for the deterioration of the main stabilizing agent of the foreshore community - the seagrass meadow. Previous reports have indicated that this deterioration was related to contaminants from industrial effluents. However, the specific mechanism causing the deterioration of the seagrass meadows had not been investigated. Introductory studies into this aspect were conducted during this investigation. These studies have enabled the development of techniques for monitoring water quality. It is anticipated that these techniques can be further refined to define the mechanisms responsible for the deterioration of the seagrass meadows in Cockburn SoundImprintFremantle, W.A.
