Prompted by closure of Fremantle's maximum security prison, this archaeological investigation was commissioned by the Building Management Authority on behalf of the State Government. This report details a zoning plan of the Fremantle Prison compound in which areas are classified according to their archaeological sensitivity. Based on historical research, this report also indicates excavation priorities and makes recommendations for on-site assessment. The compound, as defined in this report, incorporates all areas and structures within and including the boundary walls of the prison.
