DESCRIPTION
Corporate AuthorAustralia on the Map 1606-2006. Western Australian CommitteeDescription"Australia on the Map, 1606-2006" is essentially a committee of volunteers who, several years ago, agreed to organize commemorations that in 2006 would acknowledge 400 years of European maritime discovery and exploration of the Great South Land. A national Committee, located in Canberra, encouraged volunteers in each State to commemorate the contributions made by explorers of their parts of the Australian continent. The Western Australian group, established in 2003, has been especially active, partly because the western coast of Australia was encountered and mapped during the early 17th Century by masters of Dutch vessels en route to the Dutch East Indies, well before James Cook explored the east coast in 1770.ImprintWest Perth, W.A. : Western Australian Committee, Australia on the Map 1606-2006 , 2006.Collationvi, 22 p. : ill.
