Corporate AuthorFremantle (W.A. : Municipality). CouncilDescriptionThe Small Houses Scheme was originally conceived by the Fremantle City Council as a rolling programme of constructing and rehabilitating inner-urban houses. The objectives of this scheme are (i) to reinforce inner-urban residential areas, (ii) to create models for medium density housing, (iii) to provide diversity in the housing stock. Architectural work on the small houses scheme commenced in March 1984. The first task was the preparation of a brief to define the scope of the project. The two sites were then analysed in detail to determine their various relationships with the surrounding areas as well as their physical characteristics and climatic influences. This document is a progress report of the design and construction stage of eight inner-urban houses at two sites: Quarry Street and Sydney Street. The design and construction of these units will be funded jointly by the Council and the Commonwealth Department of Employment and Industrial Relations under the auspices of the 'Community Employment Programme'Imprint[Fremantle, W.A.
