AuthorFremantle, Elizabeth; Fremantle, AnneDescriptionThe diaries of Elizabeth Fremantle (nee Wynne). The diaries cover the period from 1789 - 1820, covering the period from Elizabeth's childhood "abroad" (first in Italy then in Switzerland) through her married life, until her husband's death. During her childhood, the Wynne family travelled from country to country, as the French Revolutionary Armies grew closer, and eventually were evacuated aboard the British ship, the Inconstant, where Elizabeth (Betsey), met and fell in love with the captain of the "Inconstant" - Thomas Francis Fremantle. Elizabeth and Capt. Thomas Fremantle married, and were the parents of Capt. Charles Howe Fremantle. The diaries continue with Elizabeth's life at home, and also gives many of Thomas Fremantle's letters home to Betsey, and some extracts of his diaries kept at sea. The diaries conclude with Thomas Fremantle's death in 1819ImprintLondon Oxford University Press 1935-1940Collation3 v. ports, plates, geneal. tables 23 cm.LanguageEnglishDate Published1935NotesIncludes index Includes bibliographyContent NoteVolume I. 1789-1794 -- Volume II. 1794-1798 -- Volume III. 1798-1820Dewey ClassB/FREPublication FormatDiary
