He was the fourth child of Carmine Abrugiato and Clorinda Finizio, a farming family in the Abruzzo. The family later moved to Libya. After the war, Cecchino had a job as a cook in Tripoli where he met Nella. In 1952 he came to Western Australia where he was joined by his wife in 1953. They moved to Fremantle and started a restaurant, the Roma. After a very successful life in Fremantle, Franco died 10th June 2000.
