Begins with informed speculation about the significance of the current school site to the Nyungar community, later, the location of the school site at the former cemetery on Skinner St., and the positioning of a heavy anti-aircraft gun site on the hill site of John Curtin SHS and other locations around Fremantle during WWII. Building the school finally commenced on the allotted site with the laying of the Foundation Stone on October 29, 1954, after many years of J. B. Sleeman's campaigning for the government to honour its undertaking to allocate funds for the building of a new high school in the Fremantle area.
