AuthorJames, M.S.DescriptionThe Enrolled Pensioner Force served as a military unit in W.A. from 1850 to 1880. The unit consisted of warrant officers, non-commissioned officers, and fighting soldiers. They had seen action in the Crimea, India before and during the mutiny, in Afghanistan, China or the Kaffir War. These veterans were survivors of the wars of their time, who found a new life in Australia. They came as guards on the convict ships that, between 1850 and 1868, transported 10,000 prisoners from United Kingdom prisons to the colony of Western Australia. Many remained as settlers after their military duties had finished. Their descendants to the fourth and fifth generations are to be found in every part of life here today. The author has written a factual documented account of a little known military unit.ImprintBloomington, IN AuthorHouse, 2014.Collationxv, 880 p. ; 24 cm.LanguageEnglishDate Published2014Dewey ClassB/365 JAMPublication FormatBook
