AuthorWalter, IrmaDescriptionStephen Montague Stout was one of nearly ten thousand male convicts brought to Western Australian. Sent to Bubury Convict Establishment in 1858 his education and resourcefulness was quickly recognised and he obtained a position teaching convicts. Granted his Ticket-of-Leave in 1859, he was appointed schoolmaster in the district. By the 1860's he was pursuing a career in photography and his ventures into this field have left us with some of the earliest recorded images of the State's development.
