Heritage and Special Projects BranchDescriptionSir Frederick Samson bequeathed his property, in Ellen Street Fremantle, to the Western Australian Museum in 1974. The Museum assumed formal title to the residence in February 1983, and officially opened "Samson House" as a local Museum in August 1987. Samson House is identified as an historic place by the Heritage Council of Western Australia, the Australian Heritage Commission, and the National Trust (WA). In addition to Samson House, the site contains outbuildings and other landscape features, including two modest timber structures known as the cottage and 'stables' at the rear of the site. These buildings are the focus of this study, and the prime objectives are to assess their cultural heritage significance and determine appropriate conservation and management policy.
