AuthorTaylor, JohnDescriptionThis Heritage Study of South Fremantle was commissioned by the City of Fremantle. The study comprises 3 sections: an Historical Context Report, a Thematic Inventory Report, and an Analysis and Summary. The boundaries of the study area are defined by the south ward boundaries and part of the Beaconsfield area. The boundaries are South Street, Caesar Street, Edmondson Street, Annie Street, Mather Road, Mather extension south, Island Street, and the foreshore. The Historical Context Report analyses the history and geography of the study area to identify the historical framework of development which characterised the area. Includes an account of how the built environment reflect geographic, social and economic conditions. The Thematic Inventory Report records the results of the field survey and assembles documentary evidence of the development of the study area. Each potential item was separately recorded on an Inventory form under 5 separate themes: horse industry, marine and land based industry, housing, recreational, cultural. The Analysis and Summary provides the results of a re-examination and re-evaluation of previously identified heritage items. It includes a summary statement of the heritage significance of items, places and areas identified in the Study area, and comments on their regional, national and state context.
